Broke Bells 'The High Road'

it's like the Mario Brothers meet Death Cab. My internet it too slow to watch the music video, but I like the song, so I hope it's cool. enjoy!

The End of August

It was a very rainy week with sea otters,

spawning salmon,

and low goats*.

*not my photo (thanks Bruce, even though you only tipped $150, you did leave some great shots.)

I have big hands!

Crab Night aboard the Safari Explorer

Glacier Bay, Alaska

Hello everyone! I'm here at the Glacier Bay lodge at Bartlet Cove. We are a day into my second week of my final rotation - only six weeks and six days to go! I was going to post several photos from the past few months, including ones from an awesome hike at Lamplugh Glacier, Danny and his truck, and others - but I just learned that I erased my latest round of photos, and the Lodge's internet is not fast enough to upload such photos as me with a horse, Danny laying in the grass looking very relaxed, or a tern I saw in Eastern Washington, of which I already had on my laptop. Instead here I am kvetching about what I'm not able to do. Such as drink alcohol, see my boyfriend, or upload the photos I wanted post - or retrieve the ones I erased.
In better news, I am on break right now, so I have a leisurely hour and a half to doodle around on the internet before I need to head back to the boat. It's sunny today, and our guests this week seem pretty nice. We've had a lot Southerner's on board lately (the one's who think Liberal is a dirty word and FRACKING is good for the environment) including this week, and it makes for very interesting cocktail hour conversations (such as how 'them minorities are filling up our universities so the 'smart' [aka, white] kids can't get in).
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the work. I stay busy all day, I'm able to save good money, the tips are awesome, Alaska is beautiful, and the whales make me giddy, but sometimes I can get a bit restless when I think about home and the one's I miss. I am very excited to get back to school in the fall, and to take on PreCalc, Anthropology, and Biology at Seattle Central Community College. My current 3.8 GPA probably won't last with such challenging classes, but I will do my best. These upcoming fall and winter quarters I will begin my application process to a University - probably the UW and a couple of others in the northwest United States (Hawaii?)- which is also a source of nervous excitement for me. Within these next few months I hope to figure out what my major will be when I transfer, and set myself up for some sort of career path... maybe. This will be my final year at Seattle Central from which I will receive my Associated of the Arts. As for what my major/minor will be... who knows? As much as I love and enjoy art, I don't think that is the path I will go down. If I did decide to peruse art seriously, I would want to to go an art school - which is just too much money and there is not a good enough guarantee that I will have work after. There are many subjects I find interesting, so the choice is not easy... I plan on taking a wide range of classing this next year (thus Anthropology and Biology) and really get my feelers out there. We'll see...
I will get back to Seattle with the boat on Friday, September 23rd, and then school starts that Tuesday, the 27th. I'll move back into my cozy apartment on Pike, and maybe get a part time job. Well, at least think about it. This November, I am scheduled to have a showing of my paintings at a local sandwich shop in Ballard. Unfortunately, the owner wants many more works than I currently have, so on top of my challenging classing this fall, I'm going to have to crank out at lest five (or ten) more paintings. I've already starting planning and sketching them out, but I won't be able to start them until I am home where I have not only the time and space, but the paints, brushes, and canvases. A week before I left for the boat in June, I can across an awesome yard sale where I picked up five large, well made canvases and a larger easel (than the one I already had) to work on - all for only $30! Yeay for yard sales! I am now well stocked and very stoked. :)
Well, back to work for me... until next time,
PEACE!
