I just got back from freezing my tookus off out by Greenlake. I was that far from home on this dark winter Thursday seeing a play at the Bathhouse. It was about this dysfunctional Jewish family, with a born-again-Evangelical-crazy mom, a moody-Goth-pot smoking daughter (kinda the main character, who talks to Steven Hawking when she's high), a clinically depressed dad who won't change out of his pj's - and the annoying neighbor boy who has a crush on the daughter, is obsessed with science and math, and has worn an Elvis jumpsuit since he was six. The mom believes (because she talks to Jesus when she's stressed and he told her so ---- it was so funny! the same actor who played Jesus [yes, he was in the play too] also played Steven Hawking) that the world will end on Wednesday. That the 'saved' will ascend to heaven leaving those who have not repented behind. Quite a family dynamic.
Anyway, stuff happened, characters were developed and plots thickened - and the 'end' did not come (big shocker there), all the while each character learns a little more about love and family ....awww. Okay, it was a little cheesy, and they even sang part of a Hoftorah, but I had a few good laughs and the annoying neighbor character totally remind me of Danny - not in an annoying way, but in a 'talks a lot when excited and gets very energetic about things that push his buttons - kind of way.
Very cute.
